Our Lord Has Been Desecrated

News Alert: College Professor Requested "Catholics" To Give Him The Most Blessed Sacrament So He Can Video Tape Desecrating It. He pictured the desecrated "cracker" on his blog. The Original Story Here.

Desecration of Host Not Seen
as Free Speech Confraternity
Prayer Day in Reparation

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania, JULY 30, 2008 ( The Confraternity of Catholic Clergy is proposing Friday as a national day of prayer and fasting in the wake of the desecration of the Eucharist by a Minnesota professor.

Father John Trigilio, Jr., the president of the confraternity, a U.S. association of 600 priests and deacons, sent a statement this week asking Catholics "to join in a day of prayer and fasting that such offenses never happen again."

Paul Myers, a professor of biology at the University of Minnesota at Morris, says he desecrated the Eucharist by piercing it with a rusty nail, then he threw it into the trash.

The self-professed atheist wrote about the incident on his blog and posted a photo of the desecrated host.

The statement of the Confraternity of Catholic Clergy said it found the actions of Myers

"reprehensible, inexcusable, and unconstitutional. His flagrant display of irreverence by profaning a consecrated Host from a Catholic Church goes beyond the limit of academic freedom and free speech."

"Attacking the most sacred elements of a religion is not free speech anymore than would be perjury in a court or libel in a newspaper," added the text.

Father Trigilio told ZENIT that the congregation is asking the faithful to make a holy hour before the Eucharist on Aug. 1, the feast of St. Alphonsus Ligouri, and to fast in "reparation for the sacrilegious desecration of the Holy Eucharist."

Professor Myers only succeeded in desecrating his own soul. Just as the Romans could destroy the flesh, but not desecrate the sanctity of Our Lord, neither can any man desecrate the Blessed Eucharist. Myers destroyed the substance of bread, but desecrated himself in the process. Pray for him, and for others who may follow his misguided example.

This is a HATE CRIME!!! He should be prosecuted as such and should lose his job. The University where he is employed is just as guilty if they defend him by taking no action against him.

I think I'm going to be sick!!! Hatred does terrible things to a person's soul. He is a very, very sad man and I will pray for him. Making Friday a day of reparation is an excellent idea. Considering what is going on in the world I think it needs to be a permanent devotion. God have mercy on us all.

This incident truly proves G.K. Chesterton's assertion that atheists in fact DO believe in God. Why else would this professor go to such lengths to desecrate a consecrated Host? I'm sure this professor does not believe in the tooth fairy, yet he makes no attempt to mock or degrade the tooth fairy!

Bravo. Reparation is called for also for the person(s)who stole and gave the Eucharist to this professor who has allowed himself to become the a puppet of the demonic. There is one on line version in print Lord, we are so sorry, please convert them and neutralize the evil and scandal done. . I first encountered this in an old booklette labeled "for private use" from Clyde MO Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration. Reparation, too, for those who "collected and tried to sell Hosts" on EBay, on the one who "held the Host for Hostage", and for countless unworthy sacrilegeous Communions by those in Mortal Sin from using birth control and other sins. Eucharistic Congresses can be used as public reparations in such public instances too.

Friday I will be fasting and spending a hour before the Eucharist. I cannot tell you how very sad this makes me. When will it end?

As my Irish grandmother would say, 'he's more to be pitied than scorned'. Some day he will be shown what he did. That will be a terrible day for him. He needs prayers.

The sacrilege which this professor has levied on the Most Blessed Sacrament has upset me and numerous others, Catholics and non-Catholics alike. It is an outrage that such a man is allowed to have any influence on the young. As a retired professor, I am well aware of our role as not only instructional vehicles but also, and perhaps even more, that of role models.

Some time ago, I discovered the Chaplet of Adoration and Reparation which I recite after Mass in the morning. It is beautiful and includes the prayer of the Angel at Fatima. It has been approved for private recitation by a Bishop and is available at

I ordered a hundred cards and am in the process of getting them out to my parish and two adoration chapels. I highly recommend this Chaplet and hope that readers might consider getting a copy or two for themselves and perhaps extras to give to family and friends.

Blessings and Peace,

Bear, Delaware

I agree that I was sick at heart when I heard about it, but how many desecrations take place and nobody knows about it?
I will fast and pray today and beg the Hounds of Heaven to pursue this poor man...we have 24 hour Adoration in our parish and I go tomorrow...

Fr. John,

I will join you in Adoration and fasting this Friday. We must pray for these souls who do not know Jesus.

I feel sorry for this professor, however God has a way of bringing us back to him and I’m sure this lost soul too will be back in the fold. May the Lord have mercy on us and on this so called professor and enlighten him.

We all share the same inner rage at this outrage, and yet, is this more heinous than the desecration of God's gift of life itself?

It is the unflinching, stalwart stand of our Church against the culture of death, which Myers rebel against.

Until we stand together, vote together, and protest together as Catholics, we can expect this type of in-your-face ridicule from Myers, and his sad lot.

And no, it is not us Catholics, as our Holy Father reminded us, who use the sword to spread our religion.

Fence sitting is a very good way to describe Catholics who defy the Church's teachings about the sanctity of life, and in their misguided efforts, weaken the Church militant, worldwide.

Has anyone sent a letter of protest to the University? Here's a copy of mine:

Your Professor Paul Myers seems to have become a cause celebre for hate, bigotry, intolerance. The crassness of his rhetoric is typical of the shallow mentality, which is normally associated with uneducated racists. Does this reflect the deeper light of your university's attitudes towards people of faith? Your tacit approval of his behavior would seem to indicate so. Many thoughtful parents do not want their children exposed to virulent hatred of any form. His childish behavior is tarnishing the image of your entire school. I suggest that you consider divesting yourselves of this liability, and moving ahead toward higher plains of excellence in education.
